Buffalo Speaks Volunteer Opportunity Saturday, March 14th, 6:30AM

After perfect conditions on Saturday March 7, the following morning Nick Dobbert reported that we lost our frozen-ground window to complete compost pot delivery to our spring savanna planting area. We still have 80 pots to move.

Predictions are that we now have four days of thawing. Then, there is a short cool-down period with a predicted low of 24 on Friday night.

If this forecast holds, Mark Olsen and I intend to be at Kolterman with our plastic sleds at 6:30 AM Saturday morning March 14th and would welcome any help. If we have a frozen or crusty ground surface, it will not last long. I’d be surprised if it holds up for more than three hours.

I can assure you that sledding the pots over frozen soil and leaves will be far preferable to hand carrying fifty-pound pots through sloppy mud. Also, the freeze down will help hold the compost in the pots. Otherwise it spills out like water. If you are hale and heroic, that morning’s effort will be well spent.

Changes in the weather forecast may revise our schedule.
